Halloween Advertising 2026 Unmasked
Halloween shoppers are buying right now. Costumes are already in carts, and decorations are already on doors. If your Halloween ad campaigns aren’t live yet, tomorrow is too late.
Americans are expected to spend $13.5 billion on Halloween this year, according to the National Retail Federation. That’s up from last year’s record of $13.1 billion, and works out to about $115 per person.
Every costume, bag of candy, and plastic skeleton has the same deadline. A deadline that is creeping towards you pretty fast. This guide shows you how to reach those shoppers before it arrives.
It’s Alive! This is H(AI)loween
Nearly half of US consumers (47%) are using AI tools to help with their Halloween shopping this year. It’s a tool that many see as perfect for inspiration and product research. And it’s dominating already. Online search as a source of costume inspiration has dropped to 32%, its lowest level in a decade.
What Does That Mean For Your Halloween Ads?
Shoppers arrive with a shortlist. An AI assistant can turn “vampire costume” into three buyable options in seconds. By the time that shopper sees your ad, they’re already comparing. 31% say they’ll shop around if prices come in higher than expected. Your ad needs to show the product, the price, and the offer at first glance.
Ideas sell before products do. Shoppers are asking AI for costume themes and party ideas. Design your creative to meet them at that stage. Show the finished look or the full party setup, then show the deal. AI is effective because it removes brainstorming and thinking. Design your ad creatives so they do the same thing.
Besides, discounts still decide it. About a quarter of shoppers (26%) plan to look for coupons or sales. A clear, time-limited offer gives them a reason to choose your product over the chatbot’s pick.
Advertisers: Dress Your Ads to Impress
Halloween is the one week of the year when nobody complains that your ad is too much. Big brands know it, and their seasonal creatives are already everywhere. Yours needs to stand out next to theirs.
Full-Screen Frights
One way to find yourself seen and remembered beyond your creative is by choosing your ad format tactically. Full-screen formats give your Halloween creative the most room to work. Pop-under and interstitial ad formats take over the screen, so fill that space with your best visuals and your clearest offer.
Pop-Under: A Landing Page in Costume
A pop-under opens your landing page in a full window. Give it the full Halloween treatment: dark backgrounds, bold type, a seasonal headline, and one clear offer. Keep the puns, but keep them short. Visitors should know what you sell within a few seconds.

Interstitial: Play a Little Game
Interstitials appear between page views, which gives you a natural moment to invite people to play. A spin-the-wheel discount, a costume quiz or a quick candy-matching game gives people something to do with your ad. Put a prize at the end, and they have a reason to finish.
In-Page Push: Last-Minute Reminders
With less than two weeks to go, urgency works in your favor. In-page push ads appear on the page itself, and users don’t need to subscribe to see them. Use them for short, time-bound messages like “Order by Thursday for Saturday delivery” or “Party supplies 30% off until midnight.” Keep the copy tight and the deadline clear.
Interests to Target This Week
Let’s start with “Shopping” and “eCommerce”. Halloween is the first stop on a long journey of festive shopping holidays, from Black Friday through to the festive season and New Year beyond. Shoppers have entered deal-hunting mode and won’t be leaving it for a while.
Next, “Entertainment”. Scary movies are a Halloween favorite, with 42% of consumers planning to watch one. Streaming and movie offers fit right in.
Dating is a reliable Halloween performer. Costume parties and longer, darker October nights get people looking for company. Reach them through “Online Communities”.

Customers are on the hunt for seasonal savings, so your Halloween marketing ideas should highlight any offers and discounts you have.
Our Favorite Haunts: Top Halloween GEOs
The US is where most of that $13.5 billion will be spent, so put it at the top of your GEO list. Canada follows the same traditions and suits the same seasonal creative.
Europe is a smaller market, but a growing one. In the UK, Halloween spending is forecast to reach £705 million this year, up 6% from 2025. The Saturday date is expected to bring more parties and more shopping. In Germany, the retail federation HDE projected €520 million in Halloween sales for 2025, 63% higher than in 2019. In France, shoppers bought 25,000 tonnes of pumpkins and gourds in September 2025, up from 21,000 tonnes a year earlier.
Localize your creative for each market and lead with a holiday-themed offer.
The Encore: Día de Muertos in Mexico
Halloween ends on October 31. In Mexico, the season keeps going. Día de Muertos runs until November 2, and it’s a bigger shopping moment than Halloween itself.
Mexico’s national chamber of commerce, Concanaco Servytur, expects Día de Muertos to generate 53 billion pesos (about $2.9 billion) between October 25 and November 2. That’s 7% more than in 2025 and almost 17% more than in 2024. Ad tech company Kidscorp estimates Halloween will add around 22 billion pesos, so Día de Muertos brings in more than twice as much.
Online sales are climbing too. E-commerce platform Tiendanube reported that sales of skulls and catrina figures rose 85% between September 1 and October 8. Papel picado sales rose 53%, and altar and offering items rose 24%.
Here’s how to make the most of it:
- Keep Mexico campaigns running after October 31. Demand continues for two more days, peaking on November 1 and 2.
- Change the creative for the occasion. Día de Muertos celebrates family and memory. Swap the scary visuals for marigolds, sugar skulls, and catrinas, and keep the tone warm.
- Look beyond retail. Tourism is a major driver, as people travel to the major cities to spend time with family.
Publishers: Get More Treats From Your Traffic
Your visitors will see a lot of Halloween ads this week. Give them a page that fits. A seasonal header image, a themed color scheme, or a Halloween content roundup makes those ads feel at home on your site. Relevant ads tend to get more clicks.
